God is all powerful. We are told in the Scripture that nothing in impossible for our God. There is no limit to God’s strength.

This isn’t going to come as a shock to most of you, but we are limited. There is only so much that we can do. When we come to the end of our ability, if you are like me, you ask for help.

But because we understand that God is all powerful, often times we lose sight of the fact that He wants our help. He wants to include us in accomplishing His plan.

Surrender 06/12/09

Everybody eventually surrenders to something or someone. If not to God, you will surrender to the opinions or expectations of others, to money, to resentment, to fear, or to your own pride, lusts, or ego.

The word “Surrender” isn’t used in the Bible very much, but the truth about being Surrendered to God is all throughout the Scriptures. Sometimes it’s called “worship”, “consecration”, “serve”, “take up your cross”, “die to self”, “making Jesus lord”, “bow down.”

What you call it doesn’t matter, that you do it does.

I want to challenge you to be 100% surrendered to God. It’s possible to be partially surrendered to God. It’s like a kamikaze pilot who is flying his 7th mission.

Love the Lord with all of your heart, mind and soul. That’s a person who is 100% surrendered to God.

Surrender 05/24/09

We think of surrendering when there is no chance of victory. But the truth is, surrendering to God is the ONLY chance of victory.
Surrendering is best demonstrated in obedience. You can’t surrender to God without obeying God.
When you surrender to God, you come under what God placed over you, so you can be over what God placed under you.
Surrendering to God leads to obeying God which leads to serving God which leads to pleasing God.

Surrender 05/17/09

When we think of surrender, we often think of it in terms of quitting, giving up, and admitting defeat.
We think of surrender in terms of an army finally coming to the realization that it has no chance of winning or even surviving. The army will surrender hoping that their enemy will at least spare their lives.
Here in Texas, we don’t like to surrender. Why? Because we remember the Alamo. It doesn’t really matter where you’re from; all of us have that “don’t mess with Texas – remember the Alamo” attitude inside of us.
It’s the attitude that says no matter how bleak, how dismal the outcome looks, you would rather die for your cause than to give up or surrender.
Surrendering has to do with who’s in charge, who’s in authority. If I surrender, they are in charge. If they surrender, I’m in charge.

The Core 05/10/09

Having kids really shakes your priorities and causes you to focus on the things that are the most important. Things that used to be very important suddenly become less important.

All of us have this need inside to sift through all the commotion in ours lives and determine what is most important. All of us have our own methods and systems to put things in some order of priority. Many people read books and educate themselves on what is most important and how to focus on it.

People asked Jesus and what was most important. So today we are going to unpack Jesus’ answer and see how it should affect our lives today.

The Core 05/03/09

Today I want to talk about scripture. Here at Ovation  Church, we base our beliefs, our teaching, intimately our lives on the Word of God.
We should not check our brains at the door! God created us as intelligent beings and it is right of us to use our intellect to understand things about God.

1 Peter 3:15 (Amplified Bible)

But in your hearts set Christ apart as holy [and acknowledge Him] as Lord. Always be ready to give a logical defense to anyone who asks you to account for the hope that is in you, but do it courteously and respectfully.

The Core 04/26/09

Today we are going to talk about the issue of faith. Romans 1:17 – Galatians 3:11 – Hebrews 10:38 …The just shall live by faith … Habakkuk 2:4 …the just shall live by his faith. Faith confuses a lot of people. Heb 11 – faith is substance, verse 6 says it is impossible to please God without it, Jesus repeatedly said the disciples had little faith but when (Luke 17) they asked Him to increase their faith He said you only need a little faith like a mustard seed. Many people refer to any religion or “spirituality” as faith. Growing up we are told to have faith in ourselves.

Just having faith is not good enough.

The Core 04/19/09

thecore

This is message number one of the new series of talks we’re in called “The Core”. What I want to do during this series is talk about a few topics that are the foundation to a Christian life.

Some people would say that these are topics are basic Christian beliefs. I disagree with that. To say that they are basic could imply that they are simple or insignificant. To say that they are basic could mean that you already know about it and don’t need to hear it again.

But these core issues, these core beliefs are really the foundation for all other Christian beliefs and viewpoints. These are a prerequisite for other spiritual/biblical principles and truth.

If you don’t understand and get a firm foundation of these topics, then the other spiritual truths you may learn will and up being unstable.

SO LET’S GET INTO IT!
