We are going to look at how to break free from the bondage of debt, but first I want to tell you that debt is not a sin.  This is not a matter of your salvation. Peter at the pearly gates isn’t going to be running credit checks on people. It’s about being smart with money or being stupid with money.

Proverbs 21:20 (New Living Translation)

The wise have wealth and luxury, but fools spend whatever they get.

The Bible does say it is a sin to barrow money and not pay it back.

Today we are starting a new series called Mad Money. We are going to look at what God has to say about or bank account and our relationship with the mean green.

Money is fun… if you’ve got some. Sometimes people say…”all those rich people are miserable”…No sir!

The Bible has much to say about money. The principles we will look at are really pretty simple. They are easy to understand, but they are hard to make yourself do it. It requires that awful “D” word…Discipline.

We should be continually changing, transforming, morphing into the person and people God has created us to be. The Apostle Paul understood this:

1 Corinthians 3:3 (Amplified Bible)

3For you are still [unspiritual, having the nature] of the flesh [under the control of ordinary impulses]…Are you not behaving yourselves after a human standard and like mere unchanged men?

Paul is saying that there must be evidence of change in our lives. He is saying that if there is not change, something is wrong.

Why is it some people year after year progress in life and others don’t? For some of you today this is he answer, for others this will be encouragement to keep doing what you know to do.

There is a reason some people receive from the Lord and others don’t. Too many people think they can be cheap with God, cheap with God’s house, give a second-rate effort and expect God to bless their lives. Hebrews 11:6 God is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him. Diligently seeking God is doing your best.

Let me ask you 4 Qs about your thought life.

-        Are you characterized by fearful thoughts?

-        Do you constantly have negative thoughts

-        Hopeless thoughts – I will never…, I will always…

-        Peaceful thoughts – you never wig-out or freak out

We are going to look at having changed perspective. Allowing God to change the way we think about life.
